Sketch - Zech Pose

Doodle done during a Dungeons and Dragons game.
The lovechild character Zech, doing a pose similar to Ezreal.

Sketch and Color - New character idea

So this was something random that I tried to have some fun with, a character concept that is a combination (or ‘lovechild’) between my character Gene and Yark’s character Lan.

This was a random idea, but I thought it was something fun that I could give a try. I do like how he turned out, though I still think he looks more like Gene than Lan, but it’s a starting point if nothing else.

He also has Ezreal’s magic amulet/gauntlet thing.  I dunno why, but I thought it was a fun idea, heh.

He still needs a name though, but I’m not sure what yet (I kinda like Zechs).

Sketch - Gene Leap Poses

Some more action pose practice with Gene.
I seem to use Gene a lot for action poses like this, I guess it does make sense considering how he is.

The first pose though I don’t think is all that good. I wanted to go for a running leap kind of pose, and I just don’t think it worked out well here. I like it, but not one of the best attempts.

The second one I like a lot more. I tried working with a slightly different style and a different angle, and I think it turned out a lot better.
There are some issues with anatomy ad such, but still, I like this one a lot more.

Sketches - Mariachi Eye-Brawl

A while ago, when sitting in a restaurant, my sister told me that I should draw the Skylanders character Eye-Brawl wearing a mariachi hat (since that is one of the collectable hats you can earn in the game), and so I did (with a random gust appearance from Cipher below).
The first sketch is the original, and I had done it completely from memory, so it was pretty inaccurate.

However, the idea was just a lot of fun, so I decided to give it another try, this time a bit more accurate and bit cleaner as well, so here we.
Eye-Brawl with a mariachi hat. Olé!

Sketch - Shiz Bahamut

Just a small sketch I did for fun (and for morale), this is Bahamut dressed similarly to a friend’s character; Shiz the Chimera.

Sketch - Zack's Laid Back

Another small doodle from the DnD game, Zack just relaxing a bit.

…I can see him doing that in midair.

Sketches - Golem Concepts

Art is still being slow, but I was actually able to do some small sketches during my DnD game on Saturday, so here are two designs for two golem characters, based on Dollmancer’s world/setting.

First one is a design based on a character that I never really did much with, this is Ash and she’s an armadillo. She’s actually based on the second plush toy I actually made, so she is a white, red and brown armadillo golem.

The second design is actually a preliminary design for the dragon/thunder bird golem I was able to reserve for Dolly’s design challenge.
She should be a lot of fun, I’m drawing a lot of ideas based on the coatl and the Aztecs, so hopefully I will get her design down soon.

Sketch and Color - Child Bahamut

From the journal of Sir Forge; member of the Zenethia Council~

‘When we first found the child, we didn’t know what to think; he was very ragged looking with dirty fur and tattered clothing who seemed to hang around this older, grumpy dragon.  When we did finally get them to come with us, we didn’t know what we would discover.

We were first taken aback that the young one had blue fur rather than black like we expected; but we were all surprised at the fact that he looked so much like the prince.

We were then surprised at how injured he had been; his body had quite a few scars on him; we have no idea what had happened to him and he really didn’t seem to want to tell us any details.
In fact, he seemed very hesitant to let our healers look him over at all, and he outright refused when they went to examine his feet.

The thing that troubles us the most are the strange collar and cuffs he wears. Again, the boy was hesitant but we were able to see that the items seemed to be a solid piece of some kind of metal; there was no break or latch anywhere. I would assume some kind of magic, but Masamune will be able to tell us more.

What I find strange is that the older dragon that was with the child has a similar collar. There must be some kind of connection, but neither seem willing to tell us.

The child did finally tell us his name, and I have a hard time believing that this is just mere coincidence; the fur coloring, the eyes, the age, even his name, it is so much like the missing prince…’

A simple posting today: a small thing that I did for fun; little child Bahamut.

I guess this is a bit of ‘art therapy’; even though I have art to work on for people, I’ve been feeling really down and kinda depressed so I was hoping that this would be a little fun and a bit of a distraction.

The story bit was just something I did for fun since it kind of lingered in my mind while I was working on this.

Sketch and Color - Aumanil

I was able to do another art trade with Dollmancer a while back, and I asked her to design a golem for me (alchemical golems are interesting creatures in her own setting), and she designed a very awesome Chimeric Dragon for me.

So, I had to draw him on my own, which allowed me to figure out some things about him; like his name, his clothing, his story and such.

And so, here is Aumanil.

Aumanil is an alchemical golem created by a man named Jacob Borrice; who became obsessed with alchemy after he lost his wife and young son in an accident, so Aumanil sort of became the ‘son’ that he lost.
Aumanil is a very happy, cheerful and optimistic critter, very happy to help out when and where he can for Jacob or for any of his friends.  He seems to enjoy snow or cold weather in general, so it would not be unusual to see him dressed normally like this in the cold weather.

One unusual thing about him that neither he or Jacob can explain is that his belly scales seem to glow, the effects looking very much like the Aurora Borealis.  Jacob thinks it may have something to do with what he used to create Aumanil, but he really can’t say for certain.

Aumanil isn’t too fussy about what he wears, but one thing he always has on him is the rough crystal pendant he wears around his neck; a very personal gift that Jacob game him.
I really love how he turned out here, though I may play around with his clothing and clothing colors, but overall, I’m happy with how this turned out, he really is a fun character and I do owe a lot of thnaks to Dollmancer.

Sketch - Derp and Confused

These are some very bad sketches I did a couple of weeks ago that I’m finally posting.

The first one…I have no idea what I was trying to do, but the little fella just…I really don’t know.  I nicknamed him Derpy Dragon.

The second one was another random doodle and the way it turned out she looks like she’s looking at derpy with a confused look.

Sketch - Odd Adrian

An odd, and frankly awful, sketch with Adrian.
Dunno what I was going for this, I was just trying to do something and it didn’t work out.

Sketch - Little Runic

A really awful doodle of Runic Guardian.
I dunno, I think I wanted to play around with some different style, but it kinda blew up in my face.

Sketch and Color - Gene Leap Pose

This is a random sketch of Gene that I really liked so I decided to throw some color on.

Been a while since I was happy with something like this; very simple and it just ended up looking better than I expected.

Sketch - Gene Doodles

This was done during a really…boring DnD game.
Since the game was such a downer, I ended up doing some sketches and doodles, and here are some of Gene.

I kinda like the small one at the bottom.

Sketches - Gene Expressions

I’ve been trying to do a bunch of sketches to get my art going again, so for today here is a random page with Gene and some expressions.

This was inspired by some work my friend Yark did during a stream, so I decided to try and have some fun with the idea as well.
Besides, I need a lot more practice with different expressions, and it’s fun to see Gene with different looks.

Dragonborn Garrus

Since Garrus here is my newest DnD character I will be playing, I figured I would throw some color on him here.
Not completely satisfied with how he turned out, but I do like his look here overall.
Decided to break away from the typical design for dragonborn just to play around a bit.
Garrus Steelclaw - Male Dragonborn Swordmage

Garrus is a dragonborn that hails from the Steelclaw clan, a small clan that live in the port town of Kelarth on an arid continent that lies in the shadow of one of the pieces of Arkoshian history.
He wields an ancient scimitar; the Grandfather, a family heirloom said to come from the time of the Empire and is his prized possession.

During his military training at a young age, Garrus had started to study the art of sword-making and sword play, hoping someday that he would follow the steps of the ancient dragonborn ‘kensai’. His curiosity grew about the Arkoshian history and during his studies he discovered texts that talked about those who combined sword fighting with magic, the bladesingers and the swordmages.
Fascinated by what he read, Garrus started to study and train in the ancient arcane arts and started to follow the path of a swordmage, even though he wasn’t sure if he would get a chance to use his skills.

While Garrus lead a fairly normal life, things took a dramatic turn one night when he had a quarrel with a friend; Alric Stonefang, and the two left each others company.  That would be the last night he would see Alric alive; later Garrus discovered that his friend had been killed and the dragonborn was arrested for the murder.

Garrus knew he was innocent, but all evidence had pointed to him and very few spoke up in his defense.  Everything looked bleak for Garrus but on the night he was being moved to a new location for his trial, something happened and the guards were attacked by ‘something’ and Garrus made a run for it before he was killed as well.
He knew he would be a wanted criminal now and he had to leave, so he took what meager supplies he had and stowed away onto a ship that was headed out of Kerlath and towards Deepholme.

Now a stranger in a new land, Garrus hopes that someday that he could find answers to what happened to Alric, what had attacked the guards, and prove his innocence once and for all.

Sketch - Gene Crouch

Random sketch of Gene.  Again I tried working on some kind of movement pose or at least some kind of action/non-stiff pose.
Not sure if I succeeded at all.

Sketches - Dragonborn Character Concepts

Some sketches of two dragonborn characters I made and may end up playing at some point in a DnD game.
Garren the dragonborn monk and Garrus the dragonborn swordmage.

No One Is Coming

“You are an idiot, you know that?  You think you have friends and allies supporting you, but you don’t. You have no one.
No one is coming for you.  You are alone.”

Some vent art, and me experimenting with the Crayon brush in SAI.

Sketches - Gene Running and Posing

Some sketches of Gene that I tried to work on during the week.

First is a really bad and failed attempt at some kind of action pose.

Second is just a random sketch I did with Gene for the heck of it.

I kinda noticed that Gene’s ponytail is getting longer, it’s starting to look like Zero’s hair from Megaman X.

Sketch - Alistar

Tried to do some proper fanart of Alistar from League of Legends.

It’s rubbish. I tried working on it in bits over the past few days and it turned out awful; his anatomy is botched and the fact that I was trying to draw him with his arm raised caused me a lot of issues and it still doesn’t look right.

Sketch - Gene has a Crush

Oh dear.

Gene has a crush on someone, but he’s far too shy/worried to really speak up on it.

Don’t worry, Gene, I know how you feel.

Sketch and Color - Shackled Saar

Not long ago I did a sketch of Saar, my arctic Itanta OC based on the Intergalactic Truckstop world.

Well, I decided to throw some color on it for the heck of it.

Sketch and Color - Zelda (Not LoZ)

Today’s offering is another sketch n’ color.

Earlier I had this random thought of an older character concept I never got a chance to do, so I decided to sit down and actually do some work on the idea in hopes that it would help kick-start my artistic drive.
And here is the result.

This character is Zelda and she’s a hybrid of a bird and lizard (no idea on specific species yet). I dunno, I like feathered reptiles and I though it would be fun to try and work on her here.

Like her names sake, I am thinking of making her a noble or such; though I think she would be adopted; no one would know what happened to her parents and she would be found by someone that would eventually adopt her as their own.

Also, I considered giving her some kind of ‘mysterious power’, something that would be kept secret for the most part.

Yes, she is female; considering that she is a hybrid of two creatures who do not have mammary glands, she wouldn’t really have the kind of chest most people would think of.

Sketches - Captives

Might be an odd post for today.

When I do sketches to hopefully get my art drive going I do odd things sometimes, though if you’ve followed my postings this isn’t a hug surprise.

First up is a random sketch of Saar, my Itanta OC based on the Intergalactic Truckstop world. Since he is an escaped test subject, I figured he would be seen like this more often than not. This was also kind of a warmup sketch for another project I’m working on for Chaz.

Second is a sketch of Hunter all chained up. Since Hunter has kind of become this character that I’m completely rotten to, I just kinda sketched this up to get some crud out of my system.

Sketch - Runic Guardian

Sketch of Runic Guardian that I will hopefully finish sometime later.

Also, did this for the fun of it:

Passive: Runic Growth - Runic’s Armor and Magic Resistance increase the longer he is alive, up to a max. The stacks reset if Runic is defeated.
Q: Fire Sword - Using the ancient sigils, Runic engulfs his sword with fire that deals extra damage. The effect drains mana as long as it’s active.
E: Runic Shield - Runic casts a power shield of runic energy around himself or an ally, blocking damage for a limited time.
W: Runic Eruption - Runic casts a spell with runic power, slamming his sword to the ground which erupts with fiery force; dealing damage and knocking enemies around him up into the air.
R: Terra Flare (Ultimate) - Runic taps into a forgotten memory and builds up energy which is released in a wide blast in front of him, dealing damage to enemies and boosts allies’ attack speed for a limited time.

Gene and Comics

And this is the last drawing I did for 2012. Since the sketch was small and messy, I decided to give it some inking and some color before showing it off.

I imagine that if he could, Gene would love to read comic books, so this was a random idea I decided to sketch out for the heck of it. Not pretty, but fun.

And a small little shout out to Yark’s Team Prototype, now in comic book form!

Sketch - Shackled Gene

Gene is known for getting into trouble and locked up, but he finds ways to escape.

So, here is a simple sketch of Gene in shackles.
I’m odd.

I also realized that I forgot his tail in this one. Whoops.

Sketches - The last of 2012

So, for blog spot, these are some of the last sketches I've done for 2012.

First are some sketches of my character Orion. I was playing around with some design ideas as well as practicing some more dynamic/action poses.

Nest is a simple sketch of my ITS fan character Enigma.  Just something meant to be simple and fun.

Here is a random sketch of a beast character that I wanted to work on. Little did I realize that I actually drew a Charr from guild Wars 2.

Next is a very odd sketch of Gene. I wanted to go for a strange action pose that...really ended up looking weird.

Last sketch is a simple sketch of a beast character that to me struck me as a kind of merchant, like the demon Vulgrim from Darksiders.
