Color - ITS Hybrid

I have been busy trying to get a lot of art done before Christmas, but I have found some time to do some things on the side as well, so today's offering is one of these side projects.

I have done a bit of artwork based on Chaz-GELF's comic the Intergalactic Truckstop, and this drawing was a spur of the moment idea based on a world building Q&A session Chaz had where he talked about "hybrid races" of some of his aliens from the world.
So this idea popped into my head and I had to give it a try.

This fella here is a mix of the Inquisi and the Itanta, though that's about it; I don't have a name for him yet or a background, but that is something to work on later.
This was fun to work on; the tricky part was trying to come up with a design that incorporated features from both races and this was the end result.

Overall, I'm very pleased with his this turned out, been a while since I got to do something fun and simple, so this was a nice change of pace.

Paint Tool SAI.

All things the Intergalactic Truckstop is (c) Chaz-GELF.
Character and art are mine.

Sketch - Fancy Kit

Something fun and random I did for my friend pretiossissime.

This is Kit, only I wanted to try drawing him in something "fancy", akin to the royal clothing Bahamut has.

The sketch itself is...okay, but it really could be better, so I may work on this some more later on.

Sketch - Rakwulf Gene

This was something done for fun, Gene as a Rakwulf, an alien from the comic Inhuman by not-fun.

This was not the original idea I had in mind: at first I just wanted to try drawing a Rakwulf, but it reminded me so much of Gene that I just made it him in the end.

I'm not entirely sure if my drawing though is accurate, while looking for references I noticed that some of the different Rakwulf not-fun has drawn differed here and there, so I dunno if I got it right or not.
Well, according to not-fun, apparently I drew Gene here more like a hekshanian/rakwulf hybrid, rather than a full-blooded rakwulf. Whoops.
Seems kinda appropriate though, given how Gene is a hybrid himself.

Still, it was fun, I may throw some color on this later.

Rakwulf and all things Inhuman are (c) not-fun.
Gene and art are mine.

Sketch - Gene Posing

Slowly trying to get my motivation going again, so I tried working on a random sketch of Gene.

Still trying to stop with mundane, static poses, so for this I wanted to try and replicate a pose from some Megaman X4 art. Dunno if I really did a decent job there though.

Also, the marking in the lower right is more ideas for Gene's wrist markings, still having trouble with some design ideas.

Sketch - Confused and Shackled Bahamut

Don't worry Bahamut, I'm confused too.

Something done on a whim for a friend, just something meant to be cute and simple.

Sketch and Color - Lancejakk

This was something random that I did for fun, this is a Lancejakk character I created, based on JacobMace's Lancejakk race.

When I first saw the Lancejakk I really thought they were nifty (I haven't seen many rabbit/jackalope character races around), so for the fun of it I decided to sit down and work on one for the heck of it.

No real details on him yet though; no name or background since I don't know the details behind the race, their culture, and such. All I can really say is that he'll probably be a warrior who's meant to be fast, hitting fast and hard.

Sketch - Bird Warrior

This was a random sketch I worked on a bit ago.
I wanted to work on -something-, but I really didn't have any ideas; I had an idea for a direction but no clear goal.

In the end, this was the result: a bird warrior.

I don't really have any details on him though; no name, no back story, heck I dunno what kind of bird he would best represent here, so...

Random, spur of the moment sketch.

Sketch - Mundane Jasper

Random, boring sketch of Jasper.

Haven’t drawn him in a while, so I tried work with him, but I had no ideas, so this ended up being the result.

Sketch - Runic Guardian

Here is a random sketch of Runic Guardian I did during a break in a DnD game, hence the lined paper.

This is one of those sketches that I had no direction, so the anatomy and posing here is really wonky, but I wasn't too concerned with it here.
Just something fun to pass the time, have to draw more of Runic sometime.

Sketch and Color - Eastern Bahamut

This is something I haven't played with in a long time: Bahamut in an Eastern Dragon form.

This was an idea that I played with a long time ago, but never did a whole lot with it, so I decided to revisit it now for the fun of it.
The design was actually based on someone else's concept for the idea, but I loved it so much that I just stuck with it with minor alterations here and there.

He's meant to be floating there, since that is something Eastern dragons do, but it kinda looks like he's just standing there with no shadow.

Sketch - Uneasy sleep

Small sketch of feral Bahamut trying to sleep, but it looks like he’s crying.

…I seem to do things like this a lot recently.

Sketch and Color - Koral

Haven't done one of these in a while; sketch and color post.

This started off as a random doodle/sketch I did during a DnD game (hence the lined paper) and I had no real direction for a concept, but it slowly turned into this fella here.

I knew right away that I had to finish him, so I spent some time inking and coloring to help get back into the swing of things as well as come up with a good scheme for him as well.
No real ideas for character story or background yet but I think I have a simple name for him though: Koral.

Sketches and Doodles

Finally getting back to posting some sketches/doodles here.
Here is a small collection of random sketches and doodles that I’ve done randomly or during down time in work or DnD games.

First up is just a random page of doodles and designs. Some of it is practice since I want to try and come up with a good pattern design for Gene’s marking (I really wish I was better at tribal/celtic -style designs). The rest are just random fun.

Second up is a sketch of Alistar from League of Legends. Body structure is all wrong, but I wasn’t worried since it was a random doodle. On lined-paper no less.

Last up is a random sketch of Khavru. In Jedi robes. With a lightsaber.
That was random, I cannot lie. But fun, heh. Don’t worry, I think he would be considered a padawan, so no worries.

Sketch - Gloomy Bahamut

Random sketch of feral Bahamut looking gloomy.

...he seems to be like that a lot.

Sketch - Lil' Troy

A small sketch offering for today.

I've been trying to get some more worthwhile sketches done, with varying degrees of success.
This was a sketch that almost went horribly wrong, the posing and perspective were giving me some fits and while trying to figure that out, I had no idea who to actually draw in, so I decided it was time to sketch a character that hasn't had a lot of attention: Troy.

Overall, I am happy with how this sketch looks, for some reason the look and style here seems different to me, but I'm not entirely sure why; maybe it's just the simple fact that Troy's head is at a different angle and the expression I was trying to go for had his ears going in different directions. Or he just seems "fluffier" than normal.

Sketch - Pop Fizz

I didn't really have any interest in the Skylanders series when it first came out; when I first saw it I thought that it was yet another reboot to the Spyro series and that they were just trying to cash in on the idea of having an actual video game where you had to buy items to scan in in order to unlock new characters, powers and items, so I never really gave it much notice.

Well, now they have the second game out, Skylanders Giants and when I saw some of the advertising they have for it, I must admit that the character art did catch my attention.
The art is actually really good and a lot of the character designs are pretty nifty, so while trying to get back into the sketching groove, I decided to do a little bit of fan art, so here we have the character Pop Fizz.

When I first saw this character, I assumed that he would be a kind of alchemist character that threw beakers of stuff around, but apparently the idea behind the character is that he drinks these beakers of what I assume are "experimental soda pop" drinks which cause him to transform into a bulkier, heavier form; odd but still fun nevertheless and I have to admit that his overall character design is fun.

Oddly enough, this sketch still proved to be a bit of a problem: the one thing I did not want to do was just replicate the same pose that he has in the promotional art, but I think I managed to steer away from that with something that seems appropriate to him.
I may actually give him some color later on, we'll have to see.

Sketch - Gene Run

Small sketch for today.

I'm trying to move away from the static drawings I've been doing and trying some more interesting poses and movement poses, and since I wanted to draw more Gene, I decided to try this: here we have Gene running off to somewhere or from someone.

We don't cry for the gods that die by our hands--
We throw stones if our gods take a stand
We create and destroy our stigmata martyrs.
~Stigmata Martyr - Abney Park
This is my picture for Halloween 2012.
Rather than go for something like monsters or demons or such, I wanted to delve into the realm of nightmares and play with something that kind of floats around in my head now and then: Bahamut's final fate.

This idea is based on something that happens in the video game 'Lunar: Silver Star Story', where the main baddies capture the four dragons in the world and essentially turn them into living batteries to fuel some war machine.
The idea of living, conscious creatures of power like dragons being bound and hooked up to have their very life drained from this is...really kinda creepy, and it is something rather horrifying for Bahamut.

The image itself is...okay. I had different ideas how I wanted to approach this, and having an image with a semi-transparent back seemed like a decent idea, but overall I do and don't like how it turned out.

Happy Halloween everyone.

Color - Bat-Turtle Monster

I decided to take my little bat-turtle monster and give him some color.

I've been doing some thinking on him; like maybe coming up with a name or story, but so far I don't have much, no real name for him yet.

Sketch and Color - Bahakumen

"The end has come!"

Sometime ago, I had done a random sketch of Bahamut as Hakumen from the BlazBlue game series, or as I like to call him "Bahakumen".
So, I finally decided to try another sketch with Bahakumen and I finally decided to add some color to it as well for the heck of it.

Just something random.

Sketch - Axolotl

Some time ago I reblogged an art challenge in my tumblr, the challenge was that is someone would tell me an animal or creature in my askbox and I had to develop a character based on that.
Well...I only got one suggestion, so here we are.

This is an Axolotl.

This character has no name, but she is an explorer of the deep and would later become a guide to the land-dwellers that decide to come down to explore the secrets of the deep.
She strikes me as the kind of character that would work for a kids' educational/adventure show.

Sketch - Alien commander

Some concept sketches of some random character idea, female (yes, female) alien ship commander.

Really don't have anything else for her.

Sketch - Mundane Hunter

Been having a lot of trouble getting the motivation to draw, so I've been trying to do some sketching.

So, here is a random and mundane picture of Hunter.

Something that will hopefully get my drive back.

Sketch - Worried Gene

This was a rather random sketch I worked on earlier.

I wanted to do something with Gene, but I had no real ideas, so I just started working on this.
He seems rather worried or scared of something.

Oh yes, also forgot to mention, this is one of the rare times Gene is seen without the wrappings on his arms, showing off the strange markings he has on his wrists (I really need help working out the design for them).

I may work with this one more later on.

Sketch - Eastern Dragonborn

I like Dungeons and Dragons and I am a fan of the fourth edition; it is not a perfect system but it still is a lot of fun to play in.
One of the things that I like about the system is the dragonborn race, something that is probably pretty evident in my various art galleries.

Sometime ago my brother gave me an interesting idea for a character that plays off of the dragonborn race, a dragonborn that followed the Eastern traditions rather than the Western. I actually built the character in game and I finally decided it was time to sit down and actually draw him out.

This is my nameless eastern dragonborn character, I developed him to be either a paladin or a fighter, using a spear-like weapon called a tratnyr and a heavy shield. So far he's nameless because I haven't found an appropriate name for him as of yet.

Drawing samurai-like armor is really tricky; even with all the references I looked up, there are many different variations for both combat and ceremony, as well as the different regions and such, so I did my best with what I found to work out for this character.

Sketch - Bat-Turtle Hybrid

Random sketch today.

I was feeling bleh and uninspired, so I just started to doodle randomly when I got a weird idea for a hybrid monster: a bat-turtle.

Random idea, just thinking of a kind of mad scientist experiment.

Sketch and Color - Lawine

Back in the ancient mists of time of 2005, I had created a dragoness character named Lawine; 'lawine' being the german word for 'avalanche'.  She was meant to be a fighter/mage type of character who used ice/storm-based spells as well as a quarterstaff/swordstaff.
About a year later, I revisited Lawine and gave her a bit of an updated look as well as working developing her character, giving her a bit more detail in her character and back story.

I was never really happy with how she looked in the last drawing, so I finally decided to revisit her again after all this time and give her an updated look, so here we have Lawine for 2012.

Lawine is a dragoness sorcerer that is a member of a guild known as the "Sisterhood of the Violet Circle", a guild that is based in the cold, northern areas of the mainland. At first she seems a little arrogant and smug, but this is actually a bit of a facade she puts on, when people get to know her she tends to be a lot more friendly and calm. She's also very adventurous and eager, more than happy and willing to push herself past what she can normally do to improve herself.

Lawine was an orphan that was going to be used in vile experiments by an underground group, but she was rescued by the guild and eventually taken in when she had no other place to go.
Eventually, she and two other characters of mine; Kavinnes and Raine, would 'adopt' each other as sisters, with Lawine as the 'middle sister'. One thing that connected these three were strange markings that each of them had somewhere on their body, their purpose and meaning shrouded in mystery.

In time, Lawine would have an unfortunate run-in with a demon by the name of Ironclaw; a demon that had gone insane because of Lord Zeleme. She was defeated but rather than killing the dragoness, he instead raped her. She was rescued by her fellow guildmates, but the events had resulted in her becoming pregnant, however she decided to go through with the pregnancy and have the child, feeling that despite what had happened, she would raise her son as best she could and overcome what had happened to her.

That child was Gene.

Overall, I am very happy with how the new look turned out for her, but I've been debating about changing her colors; due to some past issues I am uneasy about keeping the color scheme, so I may play around with it a little down the line, see about altering a few things here and there mainly with her fur and hair.
Otherwise, I'm very happy with how this looks.

I decided to play around with the colors a bit, just some minor changes to her hair and her fur.

Sketch and Color - Lil' Adrian

I was starting to feel down while trying to draw, so I sketched up this little picture of Adrian in hopes that it would help improve my mood.

I really do like Adrian, so I'm very happy with how this turned out in the end.

Alistar Bahamut

Guess what game I've started playing recently?

So, I finally decided to give League of Legends a try, and so far I have been enjoying it, aside from the occasional snag here and there (I'm still not very good at the game).

So for the heck of it, I drew Bahamut up as Alistar, one of my favorite champions.

Alistar is actual my first champion ever, I was able to get him for free and he was my first champion to play in the game. I guess now you can say he's my 'main', even though I have a lot to learn about him, but I enjoy the tank/support role and hey, he's a big minotaur in chains, so what's not to like?

Sketch - Confident Gene

This was a simple and random sketch I randomly drew up for fun.

I was actually wanting to play around with posing, showing off something a tad more dynamic, even while standing, and I decided to use Gene for the pose.

It's...not bad, it didn't turn out as dynamic as the little thumbnail poses I did, but I still liked it enough that I thought it would be worth showing off here.

Sketch - LoZ Zack

Small sketch post for today, since it's been way too long.

Ever since I created my character Zack/Zuloroko, he always had this weird parallel with Link from Legend of Zelda, so on occasion I draw Zack as Link for the fun of it.

That's what this sketch is, a more recent and random sketch of a LoZ Zack. Yes, with a fairy, because I like Navi and Ciela.

Sketch and Color - "Hyoun" Bahamut and Hunter

This was something I did for fun, giving Bahamut/Hunter a different outfit for the fun of it.

This was something that was inspired by a character named Hyoun from the series "Shining Tears". I actually have no knowledge about the series or "Shining Force" in general, but I saw him and the outfit and figured it might be fun to so something with Bahamut like that.

While coloring it, I decided to do a version of Hunter as well for the heck of it, and so here we are.

I'm happy with how this turned out, the posing is simple but a lot better than something static, and the colors are simple so it works out. I think I could have added in some more details, but that might be something I can play around with later.

Sketch and Color - Razor Wing Owen

I have mentioned my friend Yark before and I've made mention of her "Team Prototype" project, a sci-fi adventure project with her four main protagonists Sparks, Nix, Phineas, and Tero (she's an awesome artist, I seriously recommend going to her dA page or her main TP tumblr).

Her character Nix is a bird race known as 'Razor Wings', and Nix is one of my favorite characters of the team, so seeing her and some other Razor Wing character concepts, I got the "brilliant" idea of wanting to design my own Razor Wing character.
And so...here we are.

This is Owen, an owl-ish Razor Wing.  Since Razor Wings can be any bird, the first thing that came to mind was the great horned owl, so I ran with the idea.
Razor Wings wear 'headphones' so they can actually hear, so I had the idea of giving him the headphones that also have a kind of energy visor that act as a heads up display as well.
That helped me think on his character a bit as to what he was and what he would do and I actually came up with the idea that he would be a kind of hacker/spy/infiltrator, someone that looked pretty harmless at first, but has some skills to help him out in his work.

Color-wise, I know owls do have a patterned look to their feathers, but I wanted to try and keep him simple as well, also I feel I should play around and tweak a few things, but we'll have to see.

Just something fun and simple I wanted to play around with.
Done in Paint Tool SAI.

Razor Wings are (c) Yark-Wark.

Sketch and Color - Street Rat

It's been forever since I was able to get any artwork done, so after getting some sketches done this week, I was finally able to get some finished to show to everyone here.

This offering here is of a very old character I never showed to anyone, this is a street rat...er, rat.
The concept of a "street rat" character has always interested me (I blame the Aladdin concept) so many many moons ago I actually designed one that was, well, an actual rat.
I never did anything with that character for a very long time; if I remember right I didn't even have a name or story concept for him, so when I thought about him last week I decided to actually give him a new look and show him off to everyone.

He doesn't really have a name or a concept to him yet, it might be something I can work on down the line. Name suggestions are always appreciated.

And no, I didn't mean to color his clothing like a jedi.

Sketch and Color - Khavru

This little fella was a random character idea that popped into my head not too long ago and I decided to have some fun working on him.

This little guy is Khavru, a “lovechild” character between my character Bahamut and my friend Pretiossissime’s character Kit; believe it or not, that wasn’t the original intention, it just kind of happened by accident, heh. I don’t have much on the character just yet; I can see him being a kind of traveler/adventurer and/or a kind of monster trainer/tamer, not entirely sure yet.

While the character sketch came rather easily, the colors proved to be a little complicated, I had to tinker around a bit before I got a look I was happy with.
